My life is absurd on even the best of days. I often pause and wonder if I am on Candid Camera. I know that most people would not be able to live alongside the amount of bullshit I deal with on a regular basis. In fact, the people in my inner circle are continually shocked by the details I share with them. Between my personal life, work, health situation, and building a new house, there is always something.
This week has been no exception.Β At one point, a bunch of health stuff and a bunch house stuff were all happening at the same time, and my husband sent me this message:

After a brief but detailed rundown of the life events that were unfolding and a few choice words (π€£) about those life events, here was the rest of our text chain:

Our realtor didn’t know about all of the life events that were simultaneously happening, but she did chime in about the house stuff and the builder:

And, the combination of everything that has been happening this week is on the heels of some relatively heavy stuff in previous weeks. So much so that our therapist said this to me last week:
“I am in awe of who you are and what you have done, and continue to do, in the face of EVERYTHING you have to deal with.”
Our therapist is amazing. She doesn’t give compliments just to give compliments, so I know that she always means what she says. She is not a therapist who is passive and simply nods and listens. Instead, she is a therapist who actively listens and provides honest feedback as well as tools and resources to help us learn and grow in a variety of ways. She is the real deal, so when she says that she is in awe of who I am and how I respond to life events, I believe her.
One of the things I love most about our therapist is that she knows I have a strong inner compass, so she trusts the process between us. Here is how she described our process last week:
“I provide insights and recommendations and trust that you will determine what is right for you. You are open to what I have to say and take in the information, and then you use your inner wisdom to make decisions that are most aligned with who you are and what you need.”
Having this level of trust and respect between us provides the largest opportunity for healing and growth to occur, and I am grateful every single day for her honesty, kindness, compassion, and expertise.
As I think about everything that is happening in my life right now, it brings up a wide range of normal and healthy feelings. You name it, I am probably feeling it. I don’t always realize how much resilience it takes to live my life, but my husband regularly reminds me. He often expresses his sheer amazement at my ability to continue to bravely and courageously march straight into the unknown.
If I am going to live a life that is absurd on the best of days, I am grateful that I have a husband and a therapist (and even a realtor) who notice and acknowledge my strengths and unique gifts!
Brutal. Living a life that is absurd on the best of days.
Beautiful. Having a husband and a therapist (and even a realtor) who notice and acknowledge my strengths and unique gifts.
Just another day of . . . This Brutiful Life: The Brutal & Beautiful Moments of My Life.
