I have recently had a few people ask me how they can be of more support to us. If you are someone who considers yourself to be part of our support network, and you want to be of even more support to us, here are 3 things you can do for us today:
1) Reread the article from Men’s Health magazine that I originally wrote about in my Backstory posts. There are some key differences between our situations (e.g. I don’t have panic attacks or high levels of anxiety as this person described), but some of the other parts of the article will provide some similarities to my story. Reading about a similar journey is sometimes helpful for others and can increase understanding and empathy.
2) Watch the IG video below about a patient who has a few similarities to me. If you watch it, you may gain a better understanding of certain parts of my story. There are some key differences between our situations (e.g. I have high levels of 5 mold mycotoxins instead of only 1, I have low iron instead of high iron, and I have Lyme bacteria and Lyme co-infections in addition to SIBO), but some of the other parts of the video may sound familiar. Hearing about a similar journey is sometimes helpful for others and can increase understanding and empathy.
3) Reread the blog posts listed on the Support page of this blog. What feels supportive is different for everyone, so having reminders of what support specifically looks like for us has been helpful for some people.
Thank you to those of you who are part of our support network. Writing this blog is helpful in that it saves me time in explaining the very basics to the people in our life who are supportive and cheering us on. However, it brings with it a huge amount of judgment and criticism from others, which still shocks me on most days. I do my best to provide detailed updates concerning my health journey, but the updates I provide are still only about 2% of the full picture of what is actually happening in our world. There is no way that I could ever provide the full picture in a blog, and I am grateful for those of you who get that and send love our way regardless. You are appreciated!
P.S. Don’t come to me in 6 months and tell me that you have no idea how to support us. 🤣
Brutal. Judgment and criticism from others.
Beautiful. Our support network. People who are ready and willing to learn how to be there for us in the ways that feel supportive to us. Feeling the support from others.
Just another day of . . . This Brutiful Life: The Brutal & Beautiful Moments of My Life.
