The Little Things

I have had people ask me what a typical day looks like for me. There is not a typical day in my world, but I thought I could at least log a day when I was feeling okay physically and then share it. Here was my Tuesday this week:

7:35 AM: Boil water and organic brown rice to make bulk amount of organic brown rice to freeze.

7:40 AM: Research new dish soap options since our previous option created a “new” scent that my body is rejecting.

7:45 AM: Determine that it is going to take a while to figure out the dish soap situation, so try to figure out how I can purchase a bottle of the “old” scent until I can do more research into our next options. Purchase what I hope is the “old” scent and hope it will be delivered by next day.

7:49 AM: Reply to email from lawyer about scheduling a meeting for my husband and I to discuss potential updates to our “if we die” planning and documents.

There really isn’t a typical day in my world, but this is an example of what a day can look like on this journey when I am feeling okay physically. (On days when I am feeling worse, my day can look completely different.) The goal is to not have to live on a schedule like this forever and for my body to function without all of the extra support (by finding and treating the root cause).

When progress on this journey seems even slower than usual, I try to remind myself that the little things that I am doing each day matter. The little things, which have added up to big things over time, are what have kept me alive this long.

I also want to make it clear that my husband is more than an equal participant in completing tasks in our daily lives. He had even more tasks on his To Do list for us on this day during his work breaks than I did. We do our best to divide and conquer, but on the days when I am feeling my worst, a lot of it falls on him. He doesn’t complain and always does what he can to help. In addition, he cooks a lot of food for me on the weekends, so that I can freeze it and have easier food preparation throughout the week. I am truly blessed to have him in my life for so many reasons, and there is not a day that goes by that I lose sight of that.

Brutal. So many alarms on my phone. Always being on a schedule.

Beautiful. Flexible work schedule that allows me to continue to bring in income while also completing my health regimen each day. My organized personality type. Technology and phone alarms. Song and dance breaks. Making time to connect with my husband and laugh about our days. Love and unwavering support from my husband. Tackling chronic illness as a team.

Just another day of . . . This Brutiful Life: The Brutal & Beautiful Moments of My Life.
